AMMAN — The Jordanian Cabinet recently signed an agreement with the United States to help counter the smuggling and trafficking of nuclear and radioactive material.

The agreement includes the training and capacity building of national agencies and personnel in tracking, exposing, apprehending, and responding to such attempts over the sequence of several missions.

Moreover, the arrangement also entails establishing the national nuclear programme in compliance with international specifications and standards of the sector, including participation in training courses in cooperation with and sponsored by the American Department of Energy and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Accordingly, a review of national legislation regarding judicial pursuit of nuclear smugglers may be conducted if necessary.
