AMMAN —AlGhad— The Court of Cassation, Jordan’s highest civil judicial authority, has exonerated a man in his thirties, charged with statutory rape of a minor, on the basis of insufficient evidence.

The criminal court found the man guilty on the charges of statutory rape and offering alcoholic beverage to a minor.

He was sentenced last year to 27 years and eight months in prison.

According to defence lawyer Fares Asha, the exoneration came after the defence pointed to discrepancies in the young girl’s statements and those of her parents.
