BEIJING — China will provide Jordan, Syria, Yemen and Palestine with USD100 million in humanitarian assistance, President Xi Jinping told top Arab officials Tuesday.

The Chinese President made the aid announcement in remarks to Arab delegates to the eighth ministerial meeting of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum in Beijing, an event underscoring China's burgeoning ties with the region.

Xi said that Syria, Jordan, and Yemen, would receive USD90.6 million in humanitarian assistance.

Xi also announced that his country intends also to provide Palestinians with more than $15 million in aid for economic development, adding that he would help the Palestinian people to strengthen their diplomatic interests in the international arena.

It is part of a special Chinese program for "economic reconstruction" and "industrial revitalization," Xi told participants at a China-Arab States forum in Beijing’s Great Hall of the People.

Calling Arab countries China's "good friends and brothers," Xi said China supports the political settlement to promote peace and stability in the Middle East.
