BERLIN – German political parties received 40.7 million euros in donations in 2012.
According to the annual report of political parties of the German Federal Parliament, the Christian Democratic Party (CDU) received the most donations with 18.2 million euros in 2012.
The governing coalition partner of the CDU, the Social Democratic Party (SPD) raised donations of around 10.5 million euros, and the Christian Social Union (CSU) received 6.2 million euros. The opposition parties of the Green Party recieved 3.9 million euros and the Left Party received 1.9 million euros.
The state funds for the parties in 2012 were as follows: CDU received 46.4 million euros, the SPD raised nearly 45,6 million euros, the Green Party and Left Party received state funds of 15.1 and 12.2 million euros, and the CSU raised more than 11.3 million euros.
