AMMAN —AlGhad— Overall national debt has increased by nearly JOD500 million in August, 2017, to around JOD27.02 billion, up from JOD26.55 billion in July, according to the monthly bulletin of the Ministry of Finance.
Earlier today, Sunday, the Ministry issued a statement saying that the Debt-to-GDP ratio stood at 95 per cent in August, compared to 95.1 per cent in the end of 2016.
Growth in GDP declined from 2.2 per cent in the first quarter of the year, Q1-2017, to 2 per cent in Q2-2017, compared to 1.9 per cent in Q2-2016.
Meanwhile, domestic debt has increased to JOD14.7 billion in august, from JOD13.78 billion in 2016, comprising approximately 51.7 per cent of the estimated GDP for August-2017.
On the other hand, foreign debt comprises now nearly 38.1 per cent of the estimated GDP for August-2017, at nearly JOD1.089 billion, up from JOD1.029 billion in 2016.
