Pushing for 20% Energy Contribution from Renewable Resources Can Be Achieved

AMMAN—Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Dr. Ibrahim Saif stated that increasing renewable energy input to 20 per cent of Jordan’s total energy mix to is possible, especially given the energy generating capacities of solar and wind power facilities undergoing construction are estimated in sum at around 10000 megawatts.

Jordan’s energy strategy focuses on the elevation of renewable energy contributions to the Country’s total power mix from 4 to 39 per cent by 2020. Notably, the strategy aims to lighten the weight of energy and power expenditures —18 per cent of Jordan’s GDP last year, on the Country’ already burdened economy.

Ambassador of the European Union to Jordan, Matteo Fontana, had previously stated that the EU has become Jordan’s main partner in green energy developments through joint allocations that amount to more than 145 million euros.
