Sales Tax Revenues Up 4%, Overall Tax Revenues Up 0.5%

AMMAN —AlGhad— Even though the Treasury’s revenues from the General Sales Tax has increased during the first five months of 2018 by nearly JOD50 million, approximately 4.2 per cent, compared to the same duration in 2017, overall revenues from taxation increased by only 0.5 per cent, comparatively.

Sales tax income stood at JOD1.23 billion according to the Finance Ministry’s monthly bulletin, compared to JOD1.18 billion for the same duration in 2017.

However, overall income from taxation increased from JOD1.966 billion to JOD1.977 billion in the comparative durations.

Notably, the sales tax comprises around 62.2 per cent of the Country’s overall revenue from taxation.

Income tax contribution to the Treasury’s overall income from taxation has declined to 20 per cent, approximately 3 per cent, in comparison.

The resigned government of Hani Mulqi had projected tax income in 2018 at JOD5.14 billion, compared to JOD4.254 billion in 2017 and JOD4.254 billion in 2016.
