MAFRAQ —AlGhad— Chairman of the Truckers Trade Union Mohammad Khair Dawood confirmed today, Sunday, to AlGhad that there are currently 5,000 trucks ready to resume trade with Syria, as soon as the borders are opened.

At least 80 shops closed down after the border shut down, Sarhan town official, Eng Khalaf Sarhan, told AlGhad.

But the municipality is ready to easy their reopening procedures if they apply, he said.

More than 200 Jordanian locals lost their jobs since.

Reopening the border will allow for the restoration of many jobs been lost to the closure, Sarhan noted, not to mention the economic benefits of resuming trade.

Meanwhile, trade between Jordan and Iraq is slowly rebuilding momentum, Dawoon underlined, as nearly 100 trucks operate the interstate line on a daily basis.

Hopes are that trade between Jordan and Iraq will resume the old momentum, with nearly 700 trucks operating the route back and forth, every day, he said.

Many businesses were also affected by the closure of the western borders, as well as to the north, from small business like mechanic shops and car parts to traders and merchants, he noted.
