US: Jordanian Researcher Registers Breakthrough

AMMAN —Al Ghad— Jordanian Researcher, Dr Maher Odeh Rawahneh, with the California University–Denver, scored a breakthrough that won him the “M Lee Hutchnis Award” for scientific research.

The annual award is handed out by the American Phytopathological Society to the Most Distinct and Influential research in Phytopathology; particularly fruit trees and vine.

Dr Rawaneh is the first Arab research to win this prestigious award since its initiation in 1980, having received it for his various entrepreneurial discoveries of new viruses and detection techniques, being the first to apply human genome research in viral phytopathology.

The American Phytopathological Society is one of the oldest international institutions, established in 1908, and is the only one in the field, with over 5000 members from around the world and across different sectors.
