AMMAN —AlGhad— The government’s economic development committee has begun looking into mechanisms for the delivery of direct cash subsidies instead of bread subsidisation, an official source confirmed to AlGhad yesterday, Sunday.
The source, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, said that the committee is comprised of the ministers of industry, communication, and finance, among other officials.
According to the government, Jordanians consume 90 kilogrammes of bread per capita, whereas in total the treasury allocates some JOD140 million annually in bread subsidies.
