AMMAN —AlGhad— The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources announced yesterday, Wednesday, that the door for gold prospecting in Wadi Araba  is now open and that the government is looking to attract qualified mining companies to explore the prospects of gold ore south of Jordan.

Preliminary prospecting operations indicate the presence of commercial feasible quantities of gold, the Ministry said.

The government has already established contact with specialised global mining corporations to invite them to mine gold in Jordan.

Notably, the government has sent out numerous requests for tinder in 2011, 2012 and 2014.

Overall, this is part of the Ministry’s strategy to increase the mining sector’s economic contribution to from 8 per cent in 2015 to 11 per cent by 2025.
